Addis Ababa – The Heart of Ethiopia

After my trip to Kenya in the summer of 2025, on my way back to Vienna, I booked a one-day tour with Wanderlust Habesha Tour in Addis Ababa instead of waiting at the airport. Some considered it brave to explore alone, but Ethiopia proved to be peaceful and very welcoming.

Ethiopia’s Coffee Heartbeat

While the country still faces economic challenges, Addis Ababa, at about 2,355 metres above sea level, is a surprisingly green and clean city, offering a completely different atmosphere from Nairobi.

My guide showed me many highlights: the Ethnological Museum, Entoto Maryam Church, and the lively Merkato. Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee, and its traditional coffee ceremony is an important part of daily life.

We ended the day with traditional Ethiopian coffee, music, and dancing. I left Addis Ababa fascinated and certain I will return for a longer visit one day.
