Why Taiwan Stands Out

I have been lucky to visit Taiwan twice – first in 2017 as a pharmacy student attending a conference, and again in 2025 while visiting a friend. Both trips showed me how welcoming, safe, and well-organised this country is.

It offers breathtaking scenery, clean cities, and an easy travel experience that makes exploring enjoyable. Over time, I have visited seven cities – Taipei, Hualien, Taitung, Pingtung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Taoyuan – each with its own distinct atmosphere.

Culture, Food & Everyday Life

Taiwan’s night markets are a highlight, with stalls serving delicious street food, sweets, and games, creating a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Taipei itself blends the old with the new, with modern buildings standing beside temples where locals pray.

I also visited Taipei 101, the 11th-tallest building in the world, rode its famous high-speed elevator, and stepped out on the 101st floor to enjoy a view of the city.

From January to early April, Yangmingshan National Park becomes especially stunning with cherry blossoms. Taiwan is also renowned as the home of cat cafés, and visiting one as a cat lover was a delightful way to experience a popular local trend.

Lasting Impressions

On my 2025 trip, I finally climbed Elephant Mountain, a short hike offering a sweeping view of Taipei’s skyline – a moment I missed the first time. Experiences like this, from quiet temples to busy markets, make Taiwan feel welcoming without feeling crowded.
